PLAY THERAPY

„Young children do not need to know how to read to develop healthily; they need to know how to play“

WHAT YOU SHOULD SAY TO A CHILD ABOUT THERAPY?

Play therapy for children is similar to therapy for adults. Play is a natural way for children to communicate. In the playroom, toys are used like “words” – through them, the child learns to express thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires.

In a safe and supportive environment, the child learns to:

- process and release emotions
- cope with challenging life situations
- develop internal resources, self-control, and self-regulation

Play therapy is suitable for children who:

- experience strong emotions or frequent mood swings

- have behavioral difficulties at home or at school
- are withdrawn, fearful, or socially isolated
- have low self-esteem or difficulty respecting boundaries
- show psychosomatic reactions (stomachaches, headaches, tension)
- are going through family changes, loss, or stress

DOES MY CHILD NEED THERAPY?

If you notice difficulties that concern you, your child’s teacher, or pediatrician – such as problems with adaptation, behavior, peer relationships, or emotions – play therapy can be an effective way to support your child.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Play therapy is carried out step by step and is tailored to the child’s needs:

1. Initial meeting – anamnesis interview

- Parent meets with the therapist to discuss the child’s needs, expectations, and therapy goals

- Duration: approx. 45 minutes

- Price: €50

2. Diagnostic session – parent-child play

- Parent participates in play with the child in the therapy room

- The session helps plan the next steps in therapy

3. Ongoing therapy sessions

- Child meets with the therapist independently in a safe and supportive environment

- During play, the child learns to process emotions, cope with challenges, and develop internal resources

- Parent consultations take place approximately every 4–5 sessions to provide feedback and tips for supporting the child at home

4. Conclusion of therapy

- The final session reviews the child’s progress and provides recommendations for further development

Minimum recommended number of sessions: 12 (therapy may be longer for more complex difficulties)

Duration of each session: 45 minutes

Price per session: €45

WHAT TO TELL YOUR CHILD?

„Every week you will meet with your play therapist in a special playroom full of toys. If you wonder why you are going there, you can say: it’s a special place to play and feel safe when things at home or school feel a bit confusing.“
