MGR. PATRÍCIA KMEŤOVÁ

PSYCHOLOGIST AND PLAY THERAPIST

I am a child psychologist who believes that play is a child’s natural language. Through play, children are able to express their inner experiences, emotions, and difficulties that they often cannot yet put into words.

I graduated in Psychology in 2019 from Paneuropean University in Bratislava. During my studies, I gained professional experience in both clinical and counseling settings – at the Department of Psychiatry in the Faculty Hospital in Trenčín, at the family center Klbko, as well as through work with children in kindergartens, summer camps, and outdoor schools.

My professional journey gradually led me to a deeper understanding of the child’s world. While working as a psychologist in a private kindergarten, I had the opportunity to observe children on a daily basis – how they play, communicate, and process their emotions and difficulties through play. It was there that I fully realized the healing potential of natural child-led play.

Since 2019, I have worked at the Clinic of Child Psychiatry at the National Institute of Children’s Diseases, where I supported children with a wide range of mental health difficulties – including anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders, OCD, eating disorders, and crisis situations. This experience allowed me to work under supervision and gain extensive practice in psychological assessment and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Between 2020 and 2025, I worked for five years as a psychologist at the Center for Counseling and Prevention, providing services to children and adolescents aged 3 to 18. My work focused primarily on the assessment of learning disabilities, attention disorders, giftedness, and career guidance. I also provided counseling for parents, children, and school professionals, and participated in the implementation of preventive programs focused on mental health.

In 2022, I took part in a nationwide research project on language comprehension in children aged 4–6, contributing to the validation and development of a new diagnostic method. In 2025, I participated in a research project conducted in cooperation with the Research Institute of Child Psychology and Pathopsychology, focused on the validation and standardization of diagnostic tools assessing mental health in secondary school students.

I have completed psychotherapeutic training in Play Therapy and Filial Therapy and continue to further develop my professional skills through ongoing education. I am a member of the Slovak-Czech Play Therapy Association and the International Consortium of Play Therapy Associations, ensuring that my work meets professional and ethical standards.
